Make an advising appointment
Students in Environmental Science are required to schedule an advising appointment prior to registering for classes for the upcoming semester. To do so, contact:
Ms. Carla Penders at (828)262-2747.
Usually, advising should be done 1-2 weeks prior to the opening of your individual registration window. For example, in the Fall semester, registration for Spring normally opens the first week of November, so you should make your advising appointment around the middle of October. In the Spring, registration for Fall normally opens the last week of March, so you should make your advising appointment around early March. Monitor updates to the registration calendar for each semester for specific dates.
Preparing for your advising appointment
You should come to your advising appointment prepared. Print out both the General Education checksheet and the Environmental Science checksheet for your appropriate catalog year (usually, the year you started or transferred into Appalachian). You then should fill out each checksheet with the courses that you have taken to date toward satisfaction of the degree requirements. You should also make a note of which courses you would like to take the following semester. Usually after your first advising session, this information is maintained in the program director's office, but most student advising changes as the student progresses toward their degree - as time goes on, the student usually gains an understanding of the topics that interest them most and of their plans after graduation.
